Tourism Exhibit proposal for Narodni Trida, student project
Turistika Vystava :: Národní Trída* is an urban beautification project, as well as an exhibition focusing on tourism and its effects on Prague. Národní Trída as a site was chosen because Národní Trída is ugly: dingy, drab, and dirty; a popular center of activity for vagrants and pickpockets, and a notorious hangout at one time for Romanian gangs, making it a highly unlikely spot for an exhibit of this type, but a prime location because of its prominent location in Prague’s Nové Mesto†, or New Town section. Národní Trída is a major tram stop, and metro stop, as well as a highly trafficked area for pedestrians and shoppers.
Five artifacts were proposed to educate residents and tourists alike on the effects of tourism in Prague.
We assigned a palette of bright colors to the artifacts to contrast with the inherent dinginess of the Národní Trída plaza area, and also introduced transparent and translucent surfaces into the exhibit. Through the use of transparency, the artifacts become more integrated with the environment; visitors draw more of a connection between the artifacts and the environment while becoming a dynamic part of the exhibit, too.
