Local Identity System, student project
From Denise Gonzales Crisp's project brief: “Countries, cities, towns are jumping on the brand wagon. In 2003 the small country of Qatar hired Dutch designer Tarek Atrissi to design a visual identity system to attract tourism. More recently graphic designer Peter Saville was asked to create a visual brand for Manchester, England… Represent a specific ‘local,’ or, the concept of the local.”
I move around a lot, so my “local” changes every few years. I chose to use this project to give voice to the itinerant community, and wanted to illuminate the fact that we value the notion of communitymoving away does not mean losing touch. A set of stamps was designed from a system that would generate patterns based on the specific moves that individuals made.
Download a pdf that explains how the system is generated.
