“Welcome to North Carolina,” student project
One in a series of three film analyses produced for the second Graphic Design Graduate Symposium, “Global Loves Local: The Mediating Role of Graphic Design.” The project studies the ways in which North Carolina is represented in cinema; an in-depth investigation of how the notion of ‘place’ is portrayed & perceived. We used very quick cuts to assemble a series of gestures and visual cues across a broad spectrum of topics (including, but not limited to: Southern hospitality; recreation; socialization and conflict) that elicited a wealth of information in the 53 seconds it takes to play through the Andy Griffith themewhich also affords another messaging channel [audio]. Though highly critical commentary, it is also lighthearted and entertaining. A collaboration with Jason Toth.
